Cosa ci vuole per creare un Festival Artistico di successo? Credete la risposta sia Artisti, Opere d’arte, Partners, spazi espositivi, etc.. ? Bhè, certamente non guastano, ma lasciate che vi presenti il nostro Team e capirete quale banda di fantastici matti ha dato vita al World Event Young Artists Festival.

Che mi dite di una fantastica Director crucca capace ogni giorno di dare il ritmo ad una decina di eclettici colleghi motivandoli ed ascoltandoli in tutte le loro questioni, sempre pronta tra l’altro a concludere la giornata a birrette? (N.B. Silke è stata svezzata nella campagna tedesca dove 1 birretta = almeno 2 pints!)..Senza SILKE NO PRESSURE (questo è il suo motto) non si andrebbe da nessuna parte!

Ci vuole poi un Fundraiser pazzo dal fisico scolpito, possibilmente gay, di cui tanto l’umorismo quanto le movenze appartengono ad un genere a metà tra un vero matto ed un bambino. STEVE LOCO difatti è inoltre l’unico a darmi soddisfazione nelle mie scelte quotidiane di moda (“I love your italian shoes/how could you buy shoes in Primark?? You broke my heart!”) oltreché (inizialmente) unico ed esilarante uomo del WEYA team.

 Segue ANNA VEGGIE BOX, la mia passione, brillante e spiritosa Project Assistant Anna è parte attiva del Green Movement e si interessa in particolare di cibi organici coltivati in modo sostenibile. Non sorprende dunque che da quando la conosco mi venga recapitata settimanalmente una cassetta di patate e cipolle locali (la mitica VEGGIE BOX.. una tristezza!!) da un hippy tedesco ritiratosi a Nottingham, e che la debba tra l’altro anche pagare profumatamente.. per Anna e la sua amicizia, questo ed altro!

 “ Fab ” è ciò che LAURA risponde a chiunque e comunque.. segno inconfondibile di un’entusiasata Markettara dai luccicanti occhi azzurri. Famosa per i suoi key messagges fondamentali in ogni occasione LAURA FAB riesce meravigliosamente anche nel ruolo di mamma regalando ogni giorno fantastiche imitazioni della piccola Betty alla scoperta del mondo.

GLOOOORIA è la persona che sa, risolve e organizza tutto per tutti dotata, tra l’altro, di un dolcissimo pancione.. tanto che siamo tutti d’accordo che il vero ambasciatore del Festival sarà il piccolo Walter che già manifesta creatività artistica (ed un certo orecchio musicale) a suon di pugni e calci dal pancione.

Se è invece una serena aura yoga di cui avete bisogno ALISON è la persona che fa per voi.. responsabile del Community Engagement and Volunteers Program Alison ricorda una bellezza del Botticelli anche durante le più infernali riunioni. Concentrata ed umana in tutto ciò che fa non si tira certo indietro di fronte ad uscite e ballI e credetemi, la Venere Scatenata è un vero capolavoro!

 MARIA SIESTA già lo conoscete ma è doveroso celebrarne le mitiche gesta nell’ufficio. Oltreché distribuire abbracci, baci ed una quotidiana dose d’amore a tutti quanti la MI GUAPA gestisce la comunicazione con partner e artisti Spagnoli e Sud Americani supportandoli in tutte le loro questioni. Essendo poi Maria un’attrice e ballerina la si vede spesso improvvisare (ed ovviamente sieste) tra le scrivanie, oltreché prodigarsi affinché cioccolata e biscotti non manchino mai nella dispensa.

 La lista è ahimè ancora lunga dunque vi darò una piccola tregua e lasciandovi immaginare il resto del carrozzone.. se poi mi ritrovaste più matta di prima .. ecco, credo di non dovere una spiegazione. : )

What do you think you need to organize a successful Arts Festival? Artists, Artworks, Partners, Galleries, and so on..? Well, of course they are “quite” important elements but let me introduce you our team and you will see what a fantastic and crazy crew of people gave birth to the World Event Young Artists Festival.

Let’s start with a great german Director, who can lead everyday a populated and eclectic crew, supporting everyone and always happy to conclude the day with a drink! (But be careful.. Silke were born in the German countryside and for her 1 Drink = at least 2 Pints ).. anyway without SILKE NO PRESSURE (her philosophy) there will be no festival at all!

Then you probably need a crazy and atlhetic Fundraiser, possibly gay, whose hilarious humor as well as behaviour remind me sometimes a crazy person and some others a little children. Moreover STEVE LOCO is the only one who gave me satisfatcion with fashion (“I love your italian shoes/how could you buy shoes in primark?? You broke my heart!”) and also initially the only man of the Team.

ANNA VEGIE BOX, my lovely friend and brilliant Project Assistant,  follows with her witty attitude. Active part of the Green Movement Anna is interested in local and organic food cultivation and for this reason a German hippy retired in Nottingham weekly deliver to me a box of local vegetables (potatoes and onions.. what a sad life!!) that I also pay handsomely.. just to gain Anna’s love!

“Fab” is what LAURA (FAB) answers with her beautiful twinkling light blue eyes to everybody in all circumstances as a proper Marketing Manager. Her key messages are popular (and useful) in all the situations as well as the imitations she made of her little daughter Betty discovering the world.

GLOOOORIA is the person who organize, knows and deal with everybody’s issues who alos carries lovely bump. That’s why we all agree that the real WEYA Ambassador is Walter who is already expressing his talent as a musician with rhythmic kicks and punches to the poor Gloria.

If you are looking for a more peaceful yoga atmosphere ALISON is your person. Responsible of the Community Engagement and Volunteers Program Alison remind me a beautiful subject of the Botticelli also during the most evil meetings. Focus and human in all the situations she also enjoys the nights out and trust me, the Dancing Venere is a real masterpiece!

You probably already know MARIA SIESTA but I want to celebrate her heroic deeds in the office. Active distributor of hugs, kisses and love expression in the office MI GUAPA is also in charge of the communication with Spanish and South American artists and partner supporting them in all their issues. Being also an actress and dancer you can easily find Maria dancing (or sleeping, depends if is Siesta Time) among desks and she is also really happy to make sure we always have enough chocolate and biscuits in the office.

I am afraid the list might be longer so I’ll give you a little break but I am sure you’ll understand if after this Festival we all are a little bit crazier than before. : )

And the first week…finally has passed! Before explaining you my social life situation I can’t wait to share with you this fantastic news: FINALLY I UNDERSTOOD WHAT I AM DOING HERE!

First of all we are expecting two other volunteers (French and Egyptian) to join us in two weeks and together we will move to our new house (Ollie..I’m gonna miss you!!). The new entries, who according to my immagination would arrive respectively one with a baguette and the other with an exotic hieroglyphic profile, will work full time at New Art Exchange, an international centre for the contemporary visual arts and crafts, while me and Maria Siesta are going to be part of the team that organize the World Event Young Artists Festival, the final event of the East Midlands Cultural Olympiad.

For this reason in these weeks we are “shadowing” the people of the team to explore the different sectors of the festival and of course to know them!

I should say that, a part from the initial shock to work in English (they think that I am a desperately deaf as I asked to repeat things to me 5-6-7-8 times..), the firt week was great!

I’ll attach a more fromal description of the festival and art gallery soon as well as the differte links (like are of course appreciate!) but I think the better way explore the project is to seat next to me and enjoy the show!

E la prima settimana.. è andata! Prima di avventurarmi nel resoconto della mia nuova social life devo condividere con voi questa meravigliosa notizia: HO FINALMENTE CAPITO COSA SONO VENUTA A FARE QUI!!

 Anzitutto entro un paio di settimane altri due volontari (francese ed egiziana) dovrebbero raggiungerci e insieme ci trasferiremo in casa nuova (Ollie..mi mancherai!). Ma mentre i due che, secondo la mia immaginazione dovrebbero presentarsi rispettivamente con baguette sotto l’ascella e profilo da sfinge/geroglifico, lavoreranno full time presso New Art Exchange, un centro internazionale d’arte e artigianato contemporaneo, io e la MARIA SIESTA saremo parte del team che organizza il World Event Young Artists Festival, evento finale delle East Midlands Cultural Olympiad.

A tal proposito in queste settimane stiamo affiancando i vari membri del team di modo da scoprire i vari settori in cui s’articola il festival, oltreché ovviamente le fantastiche persone coinvolte.

Devo dire che, a parte lo shock iniziale di lavorare in Inglese (non c’è da vergognarsi a chiedere di ripetere le cose 5-6-7-8 volte.. alla fine mi spaccio sempre per sorda) posso dire con piacere che la prima settimana è andata alla grande!

Allegherò una descrizione “ufficiale” del festival e della galleria più avanti oltreché i vari link (like e followers sono ovviamente graditi) ma il modo più interessante di rendervi parte di questo favoloso progetto è certamente sedervi accanto a me e godervi lo spettacolo!

After observing several “question mark faces” of the people to whom I mentioned the EVS (European Voluntary Service), a part from my fantastic friend MENE NO PROFIT - an eternal and motivated volunteer in all the world) I thought was time to briefly explain to you (so briefly..with BLOG!) what I’m doing here whit a lethal copy and paste text like: The European Voluntary Service gives to young people the opportunity to..bla bla…Just kidding!

 To be honest I came without reading the proper documentation.. If my father discover that I signed the agreement just because the responsible of the projetc, the fab Lucia from Altamura - I have to say that thanks to Lucia I changed my idea of Altamura discovering that is not only a kind of (tasteless) italian bread but also an (apparently) vibrant city in the South of Italy!-is too funny and she convinced me to go “fuori dalle palle!” as she said (help yourself..I can’t translate!).

But let me please explain to you why (why???) the destiny sent my to eternal grey England, I’m sure you will feel like going “fuori dalle palle!” as well.

 There was a time Erica/Gerry who happly graduated in Literature with Historic and Artistic Contemporary and Modern specialization (the puntualization is pedant as necessary to avoid any doubt/prejudices/stereotipes: I’m afriaid NO,I don’t find any pleasure in translating dead languages, I don’t arcaic quote a part from the ones in my dialect, I don’t write/dedicate melancholic poems/write desperate love songs and, to conclude, I take care of my italian style as well as of my - sinner – soul so..no sandals with white socks at all!).

 Well, I was telling you that after my graduation I unfortunatelydecided to do a typical unpaid exploitation internishp to gain more experience”for a well-known organization of cultural event.

After the first interview with my future MIRANDA (for those of you who haven’t seen “The Evil wears Prada” I’ll upload a short abstract to clarify) I was selected and I had the more frustrating work period of my life seriously beleiving that my brain was going to turn into a mailng list/Excel sheet soon (in fact this was my job eight hours per day).

However There were some habbits/manias of LA MIRANDA that I think is necessary to tell you because ithout these moments of fun I wouldn’t probably be survived.

 Being LA MIRANDA on a diet/in the gym/starving/without sex for something like 15 years she spent half of her day to gobble of the food that she couldn’t eat her poor cat NERONE (what an original name!) that she took with her to the office wiith a leash (but not before midday thanks, NERONE is a bit slow in the morning).

The cat, with its worring round/baloon shape, used to spent the day devising unsuccessfull ambushes to our costumers or farting on my desk.

 After three months (I can’t mentioned the other habbits, I want to be elegant!) I started feeling more “vicentina” than ever (in my city, Vicenza, you should know we are famous for a legend that say we eat cats, express by the adjective magnagati in my dialect!). So the poor NERONE was risking a lot but fortunately I decide to look for something else, leaving LA MIRANDA and NERONE in the crazy office!

 I was surfing in the web whe I bumped into a one year long EVS Project in an Arts Organization based in Nottingham, called New Art Exchange, working for the promotion of the diversity through art and so, without having a precise idea of EVS (but being sure that wasn’t a 100% voluntary service, working only for the glory is not possible) I sent out my CV. From thet moent Lucia sent me any kind of information material and fortunately/I was forced to lern a bit more about the EVS.

I discovered that there are plenty of European funded projetcs for young people (I’m sorry I’m really boring!) and on of this is the EVS.

Basically every project can have differt duration (from 2 weeks to one year) and they can be in different sectors (social, cultural, sports..)supporting young people in an experience that is important for the professional, cultural, social and human development!

 Said that thing I would kindly ask you, if you are interested in going “fuori dalle palle” to visit the website and let me leave to someone else this boring role!

Dopo aver raccolto l’ennesimo sguardo a punto di domanda misto compassione di chiunque a cui tentassi di spiegare il significato dello SVE, Servizio di Volontariato Europeo

 Tutti ovviamente tranne la mia fantastica amica MENE NO PROFIT (instancabile volontaria in giro per il mondo da anni il cui soprannome credo parli per sé) ho pensato fosse il caso di aprire una piccola parentesi (tipo un BLOG?) per spiegarvi cosa sto facendo qui e tediarvi un po’ con un bel copia - incolla di quelli letali.

Tipo: Il Servizio di Volontariato Europeo per giovani (SVE) propone una particolare esperienza di formazione a tutti i giovani di età compresa tra..bla bla. Scherzavo!Io per prima non ho letto praticamente alcuna documentazione.

Dio mi salvi se mio padre scopre che ho firmato perché la responsabile del progetto, la mitica Lucia di Altamura (grazie alla quale ho scoperto che Altamura non è solo un tipo di pane, tra l’altro gnanca bon, ma anche una apparentemente fervente cittadina pugliese!) è troppo simpatica e mi ha fatto venire voglia di “andarmene fuori dalle palle” come dice lei. Ma lasciate vi racconti per bene come il destino (ma perché??) mi ha spedita nella instancabilmente grigia Inghilterra, sono sicura verrà volta di andare fuori dalle p..anche a voi!

 C’era una volta “la Erica” detta Gerry che, una volta laureatasi felicemente in Lettere storico-artistiche moderne e contemporanee (la precisazione è tanto pedante quanto necessaria ad evitare dubbi/luoghi comuni/stereotipi: no, mi dispiace ma non mi diletto a tradurre brani dell’antichità, non uso citazioni diverse dal dialetto veneto, non scrivo/dedico malinconiche poesie/compongo disperate canzoni d’amore e ci tengo tanto al mio Italian style quanto alla mia anima – spesso peccatrice – dunque niente sandali con i calzettoni!).

 Dicevo, una volta laureatami decisi di darmi alla ormai tipica (e poco gratificante) esperienza di “stage di sfruttamento non retribuito per fare esperienza” presso una nota organizzazione che si occupava di eventi culturali. Superato il colloquio con la mia futura MIRANDA (per chi non avesse visto il diavolo veste Prada allego un piccolo estratto chiarificatore) trascorsi i più frustranti tre mesi di lavoro della mia vita in cui ho temuto seriamente il mio cervello si sarebbe trasformato in una mailing list/foglio Excel (a questo difatti ero deputata otto ore al dì!).

C’erano tuttavia delle abitudini/follie della MIRANDA che mi sembra alquanto doveroso raccontare, senza le risate difatti credo non sarei sopravvissuta!

 Essendo infatti LA MIRANDA a dieta/in palestra/affamata/costretta alla castità da almeno 15 anni passava metà della giornata a ingozzare/sfondare il gatto NERONE (un nome originale!), che portava in ufficio al guinzaglio (non prima di mezzogiorno grazie, NERONE è un po’ lento la mattina), di tutto quanto lei non poteva mangiare.

Il gatto, dalla forma preoccupantemente sferica, era solito passare la giornata ad escogitare fallimentari agguati (immaginatene l’agilità) ai danni dei nostri clienti o a scoreggiare comodamente sulla mia scrivania.

 Dopo tre mesi così (sul resto, per eleganza, devo sorvolare!) iniziai a sentirmi più vicentina e dunque potenzialmente magna gati che mai (il povero Nerone non sa cosa ha rischiato!) e decisi che dovevo assolutamente muovermi da lì.

Fu così che navigando in uno di quei siti per giovani mi passò davanti il bando per un progetto SVE di un anno a Nottingham, si trattava di lavorare presso un’importante galleria d’arte di nome New Art Exchange, impegnata nella promozione della diversità attraverso l’arte e così, senza aver molto chiaro cosa fosse uno SVE ( e dopo essermi assicurata non fosse volontariato al 100%, lavorare solo per la gloria non si può!) mandai il mio CV. Fu così che la simpatica Lucia di Altamura iniziò a bombardarmi di materiale informativo e fui (mio malgrado/fortunatamente) costretta a documentarmi un po’.

 Scoprì allora che ci sono moltissimi progetti di mobilità giovanile finanziati dalla Commissione Europea (oddio sono noiosissima scusatemi), tra cui lo SVE.

Si tratta fondamentalmente di progetti di diversa durata (da due settimane ad un massimo di 1 anno) che possono impegnare i giovani in diversi settori (sociale, culturale, sportivo, etc..) sostenendoci economicamente in cambio del nostro (prezioso!!) aiuto.

Esperienze a tutto tondo per sviluppare competenze non solo professionali ma anche tecniche, culturali, sociali e perché no, umane.
